Skype has updated their Android App and it allows for two-way video calling from your Android Phone.

You can find the update in the market and here’s the catch. The update is only enabled for selected handsets:

Nexus S
HTC Desire S
Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo
Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro

So if you have one of the mentioned devices, you can grab the app update from Android Market.

No Android 2.1 For Xperia X10 Until End Of Year

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 which comes with Android 1.6 on-board, is not getting Android 2.1 until the fourth quarter of this year.

The Sony Ericsson Product Blog says the following improvements will be coming at the end of the year:

Upgrade to Android OS version 2.1
HD video recording as per the same execution as Sony Ericsson Vivaz
Wireless home connectivity via DLNA
Improvements to signature applications Timescape and Mediascape to make them even smarter and richer

Keep in mind those would be great improvements if they were coming today but by the last quarter of this year, is shall we say ridiculous! Almost a year after Android 2.1 came out it will be ready for the Xperia X10, give me a break! [SE Product Blog]

Canada’s Rogers network officially launched the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 this morning. You can pick one up for $149 with a 3-year deal. Rogers mentions that the Xperia X10 currently runs Android 1.6 but will eventually be getting an update. Check out Rogers Video after the break.

In case you weren’t aware, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10′s Camera has facial recognition software that enables the camera to identify faces within pictures. For example, if you take a picture of someone, you can easily find more pictures that person since the X10 will group the pictures together based on facial recognition. So for a phone (actually smartphone) not only do you get an 8 megapixel camera but this nifty feature as well.

Ericsson Labs has a short video demonstration of their new 3D Landscape API running on an Xperia X10 phone. Satellite maps are rendered in 3D making for a really cool map demo. Wouldn’t this API rock in a navigation app?

From Ericsson: The SDK libraries uses unique maps in 3D and fast methods for rendering the maps which makes it possible to show realtime 3D maps in high quality. The maps for the SDKs are downloaded from a backend server and buffered in the mobile as needed.

It looks like the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 has a little sister codenamed “Robyn” that’s really small.Â Just look at the picture, the device is tiny!

The ‘Robyn’ is reported to come with your usual connectivity options–3G, Wi-Fi, etc, 3.5mm headphone jack and a 5 megapixel camera. It looks like the same UI as the Xperia X10. It will also come in four different colors.

Look what popped up at the FCC!Â A photo of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 and a very nice one at that!

Technology, where gems like the X10 occasionally pop up complete with pretty in-the-wild pictures, teardowns, and user manuals. What we’re looking at here are test results for EDGE 850 / 1900 plus WCDMA Band IV (that’d be T-Mobile’s and WIND’s spectrum, by the bye), WiFi, and Bluetooth, so even if T-Mobile ultimately chooses not to offer it on contract, you should be able to score it one way or another N900-style. The user’s manual is basically just 40 pages of good stuff plus a bunch of conformity statement mumbo jumbo, but it’s still a good read — so if you think this might be your phone of choice come 2010, have a look.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 was previously rumored for release on February 10th but it looks like the device could be that launching even earlier. Play.com is showing the release date of the Xperia X10 for January 18th 2010. They are a UK-based retailer so it’s still unclear when (or if it ever does) the Xperia X10 will arrive in the US.
