If your carrier is AT&T, Bell or Rogers and you have a newly minted Samsung Galaxy Tab, there is one glaring omission. The ability to make voice calls! Well, now you can, thanks to XDA Developer member ClubTech who released a hack that will bring voice calls to your new Android tablet.

This method will not work on CDMA carriers or T-Mobile because of their IMEI block. T-Mobile users are in luck though, head over here and there’s a hack for you as well.

So, if you are on one of the aforementioned carriers, head on over to XDA Developers for the instructions and download links.

Acer and Rogers Wireless jointly announced that the Android 2.1-powered Liquid e will be headed to Canada’s largest wireless carrier sometime in the Spring. The early announcement is more than likely a result of TELUS’ recent launch of the highly-anticipated Motorola MILESTONE which will no doubt will end up locking plenty of Canadians to 3-year contracts.

Also, you will be able to unlock the Acer Liquid e and use it with AT&T 3G.

There’s been no official pricing or exact date set yet so stay tuned.

An internal memo circulated on Friday instructs employees to halt all activations, upgrades and sales of the HTC Dream effective immediately. Current Dream owners are being advised to turn off GPS satellite tracking on their phones until the next Android 1.5 upgrade is released.

Unofficial Statement from Rogers

I’m writing to share some urgent news with our Rogers HTC Dream customers.
We have contacted all of our Dream customers by text message asking them to disable GPS location

on their HTC Dream device to ensure all 911 calls complete.

HTC is expediting a software fix to the 1.5 Android Operating System

that will address this issue – and provide several other improvements to the OS.

We expect this upgrade to be available very soon. In the meantime, Dream customers need to follow these steps:
1) Select Menu
2) Select Settings
3) Select Location
4) Uncheck Enable GPS Satellite

Please note that the Rogers HTC Dream is the only device affected.
Protecting our customers’ safety is our top priority and we communicated with our customers as soon as we were made aware of the issue. We have texted all affected customers and we have immediately requested that the device be taken off the shelf until HTC implements its upgrade.”

If you are an HTC Magic owner upset by Rogers’ announcement that the HTC Dream was staying at Android 1.5, you may have some good news. A post from a Rogers rep at Android forums claims that Rogers is putting together a promotion that will provide current HTC Dream owners a limited time opportunity to upgrade to the HTC Magic. Rogers is reportedly still working on the details of the promotion but if it pans out, Dream owners may have a shiny, new Android handset in their future.

Of course we can’t be 100% sure this will be true until they announce something official but it looks to be legitimate.

Hi Folks. As promised, I’m here to provide you with some more information

It’s great to hear that everyone is pleased by HTC’s agreement to upgrade Magic to 2.1. We pushed hard on your behalf and are pleased with that part. When it comes to Dream, we share in your frustration that the device does not have the required on-board memory for an upgrade. We’ve reviewed this internally and believe that Dream users should be able to have the same HTC Android experience as those who purchased the Magic. So, we are offering our HTC Dream customers a limited time opportunity to upgrade from their current HTC Dream device to the HTC Magic.

We’re working on finalizing the details of that promotion now but wanted to let you know the great news as soon as possible. Please be patient as this is not yet available in-store, online or through customer care. I will be back next week to provide you with more information. ‬

Stay tuned!
@RogersMary
