It has been confirmed that Motorola will have a 4G LTE phone some time next year and it looks like Verizon will be the carrier. Verizon’s COO John Stratton talked about the strong relationship between Verizon and Motorola:

“We’ve got LTE smartphones on the horizon,” Verizon’s Mr. Stratton said. “Motorola will be right there.”

“Over last 13 months, they have done a very good job in supporting our business and have worked their way up into almost a preferred vendor,” Mr. Stratton said. “They have been driving our Droid strategy.”

This shouldn’t really come as a surprise and we have a hunch that this phone is codenamed “Etna”. Hmm, let’s wait and see. [WSJ]

AT&T Clocks Best 3G Performance?" width="350" height="289" />

This may come as a shock to many of you but based on PC World’s 3G performance test, AT&T came out on top. PC World did a test across 13 US cities comparing AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint. AT&T came ahead with download speeds over 1,000kbps most of the time. A surprising finding was that most of the other carriers didn’t even come close to 1,000kbps. AT&T is also leading in upload speeds in all but one market along with an average reliability rating of 94%.

AT&T has been investing heavily in their 3G network as of late and I guess it’s starting to payoff. Now they just need to fix network issues in New York and San Francisco and it we be all good!

We have some good news and some bad news. We’re hearing from a number of places that some Motorola Droid Eris owners are getting an OTA update. The good news is that this is the Android 2.1 update they’ve been waiting for. The bad news is that it appears to be half-baked at most as is not complete. According to reports, Sense UI disappears, users cannot log into their Google accounts, and apps and data is being wiped. Verizon tells Engadget that “the Eris update to a ‘newer’ Android is still in testing and hasn’t yet been officially released.” Sounds like something slipped through the cracks and has affected a few Droid Eris owners.

For now, Droid Eris owners are advised to back up anything vital to the memory card or put it in the cloud. Also, be cautious of any updates over the next few days.

A lot of folks have been excited about Swype, the “not yet available” keyboard that allows you to drag your fingers to keys as you type. It’s definitely convenient for one handed ‘typing’ and for some people Swype really works. We’ve seen videos of Swype in action (I actually use it and love it!) and even told you how to get Swype yourself, but most Android users are unaware of this convenient “one hand” typing keyboard.

There are now rumors swirling around that are saying that the myTouch 3G 1.2 will include the Swype keyboard out of the box. I for one would welcome another keyboard option when unpacking my phone!

It’s no secret that Google and China are having a little tiff, with Google even going as far as delaying two Android phones in China. Lenovo on the otherhand is moving right along with the Lenovo LePhone which is set to release in May of this year on China Mobile, China Telecom, & China Unicom.

The Lenovo LePhone will sport a 3.7 inch 480×800 touchscreen, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, and a 3MP camera. The picture above shows the optional keyboard. Worldwide releases will follow the China launch later in the year.
