Hulu Plus is now available for Android or more specifically for six Android devices. The app is currently available for the Nexus One, Nexus S, HTC Inspire 4G, Motorola Droid 2, Motorola Droid X and the Motorola Atrix. Hulu expects to add additional Android smartphones to this list as the year progresses. Sounds a lot like the Netflix launch a while back.

If you have a supported device and Hulu Plus, you can grab the download via the links below. You can try Hulu Plus free for one week and after that it costs $7.99 per month. [Hulu]

This has been a long time coming! Since the Motorola Droid X’s bootloader is locked down, it’s been very difficult to get custom ROMs up and running on the device. Now, developer CVPS has found a way to get CyanogenMod running on the Motorola Droid X.

This is what he had to say:

So this leaves a lot of questions! Such as what works and what doesn’t! From what I could tell by playing around with it, the following definitely work: Radio, Wifi, USB, Charging, various sensors, lights, vibration, standard bluetooth. The following MAY or MAY NOT work (unable to tell for sure yet): GPS, 3G/data, camera, camcorder, bluetooth audio. And the following definitely do NOT work yet: audio (this includes phone calls, speakers, microphone, etc).

He emphasizes that the bootloader is still indeed locked, so CyanogenMod 7 will be limited to running on the Droid X’s stock kernel. Take a look at video below and look forward to the CM7′s official debut on the Droid X when this bad boy becomes stable enough for public consumption! [RootzWiki]

The folks at My Droid World have gotten their hands on a leak that will give you the Gingerbread update along with an updated version of MotoBlur. Keep in mind if you like running a rooted device, this Gingerbread update cannot currently be rooted so you will be out of luck for now. Should Verizon come out with an official update at some point, you can downgrade via SBF in order to get the “official” version.

Go to Settings>About Phone>System Updates and grab it!

During the initial phase of dropping the update to a group of 10,000 on Wednesday, Motorola had forgotten that the built-in battery manager shuts down the radios thereby rendering the phones useless in getting the update. [Verizon]

As a reminder, the update includes:

Preloaded Madden NFL football game.

Preloaded Adobe Flash Player 10.1.

Preloaded MyVerizon application (v5).

Added Data Widget to home panel.

Improved Android OS Froyo stability

Fixes to Exchange Activesync

Fixes to Visual Voicemail

The Motorola Droid X update to Android 2.2 was a welcome one but users began seeing some issues arise. Motorola is usually quick to respond to user inquiries and now is no different.

Per the Motorola Owenrs Forum, they are addressing many of the Droid X issues such as:

Stuck on Moto logo after reboot – this was tough on a few owners. Very sorry about that. A fix has been developed for this and should eliminate the problem. It will be distributed in a future software release. If you are still experiencing this issue, click here.

Random rebooting – while there always seem to be new conditions that can cause an electronic device to panic, we do have improvements coming that address and eliminate identified panic states. They will be distributed in a future software release.

WiFi connection and stability – improvements in WiFi have been developed, to address several problem areas. They will be distributed in a future software release.

Battery Manager “force close” errors – under some circumstances, pressing the battery icon under Menu > Settings > Battery Manager results in a forced close error. A fix has been developed for this and should eliminate the problem. It will be distributed in a future software release.

Media won’t play – includes “sorry the player does not support this type of audio file,” custom ringtone stop working, video won’t play, etc., until after a reboot. We believe we have identified the cause of these errors. A fix has been developed for this and should eliminate the problem. It will be distributed in a future software release.

Music files cutting off the final four seconds or so – a solution has been developed. It will be distributed in a future software release.

If you are a Motorola Droid X owner and are experieincing any bugs, you should report them to Motorola. [Motorola Support]

Yesterday Motorola posted a note on its support forums warning Droid X users about upgrading to the leaked Android 2.2 build or any custom ROM for that matter. They said that if you do, you will be cut off from the official upgrade when it comes, and could be stuck on the leaked version. This is always one of the risks when you start flashing your phone with unofficial firmware. The post says that you would have to flash back the current official firmware to avoid these risks.

There are many benefits using a custom ROM when they are available like Froyo, root, and a host of apps and capabilities preferred by the superuser crowd like surcharge-free mobile hotspot access. Most folks doing this will already know they need to flash back to get the official build when it’s available but just in case Motorola felt the need to remind you.
Many folks thought we may never see a custom ROM on the Motorola Droid X because of its locked bootloader and “eFuse”. Well, the Android development community is up to all challenges and now we can see the Droid X sporting a custom ROM.

The ROM it’s running is Android 2.2 Sapphire (one of my favorites by the way!) AOSP ROM. This should be good news because we are seeing the evolution of the Droid X being rooted, then to custom recovery and now a custom ROM being installed, laying the foundation for a stable custom ROM installation in the not to distant future.
