It’s finally official, the Motorola Droid Bionic will be available September 8th! You can pick one up for $299 with a two-year deal.

This has indeed been a strange launch for a smartphone as the Droid Bionic was announced way back in January at CES but was scrapped for revamped hardware.

The Droid Bionic sports a 4.3-inch qHD display, 1GB of RAM, 1GHz Dual Core processor,Android 2.3.4, Motorola’s Webtop features, Gorilla Glass, 8MP Camera and a 1735 mAh battery. The Bionic is 4G LTE compatible and Verizon’s also staking the Droid Bionic’s claim as the thinnest LTE smartphone at 11mm, but the new Galaxy S II on Sprint is actually a little thinner.

The folks at PocketNow.com have gotten their hands on a press shot of the upcoming Motorola Droid X2. Looking like the Droid X’s twin brother, the only difference is it’s sporting the official Droid X2 logo.

In case your curious of the innards, this Android device has a 4.3-inch display with qHD resolution, an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor running at 1GHz, 768MB RAM, 8MP Rear camera and HDMI port.

It’s expected to be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread but it’s missing one glaring feature. It’s not 4G compatible on Verizon’s new LTE network like some of the other devices coming Big Red’s way. That aside, this is one sweet Android device.
If you are the proud owner of the one and only original Motorola Droid, you can now flash Android 2.3.2 (Gingerbread) on your Android smartphone. Peter Alfonso of Bugless Beast Custom ROM fame has a 100% pure Gingerbread ROM for your Droid ready for download.

From Peter’s website:

So how is this build different from other Gingerbread ROMs?

For starters, this build was made using the master branch of the AOSP only two days ago, meaning it not only brings you to version 2.3.2 but it also has the latest bug fixes included. Once you flash this ROM you will immediately see how much time I spent making this build exactly how Motorola would have provided it to you (if they still supported our “old” device). This ROM has the stock signature Droid boot animation, ringtones, wallpaper set, 2D Launcher, and Neural Network live wallpaper. Additionally, I have implemented many of my own bug fixes and others provided by the development community. I also went ahead and enabled the Sound Recorder and Camcorder shortcuts because I find them useful.

As with any new ROM there could be the occasional bug but for the most part this Gingerbread ROM has gotten rave reviews thus far. If you want to flash your Droid and give this a try, head on over to Peter’s website and grab the download. If you like Peter’s work, please send him a donation so he can keep up the good work!
