Motorola has announced that Android 2.3, Gingerbread is now available for the Droid 2 Global. It will be rolling out in phases so you can check your device by going to Menu>Settings>About phone>System updates.

DROID 2 Global users: your upgrade to Android 2.3 is now rolling out in phases. Numerous enhancements include new download manager app, multi-touch key-chording, new user interface, and more.

You can also access the update by going to Menu > Settings > About phone > System updates.

If you have a Motorola Droid X or Motorola Droid 2 and are in need of a Gingerbread fix, you’re in luck!

The folks at My Droid World have gotten their hands on a leak that will give you the Gingerbread update along with an updated version of MotoBlur. Keep in mind if you like running a rooted device, this Gingerbread update cannot currently be rooted so you will be out of luck for now. Should Verizon come out with an official update at some point, you can downgrade via SBF in order to get the “official” version.

The Samsung Continuum appears in a Verizon specs comparison sheet that puts it against the rest of Verizon’s high-end Android lineup. The phones it’s compared against are the Samsung Fascinate, Droid 2, Droid X and Droid Incredible. The Continuum is very similar to the Samsung Fascinate and has some nice specs.

Verizon’s upcoming rebate form has come from the shadows and shows much Android love. The photo above is a partial shot of the total document that Engadget received. The Droid 2 Global is visible, which has a pair of SKUs, which means there will probably be a camera version and non-camera version.

Also listed is the Samsung Continuum which will be unveiled November 8th in New York City. The Motorola Citrus also makes the cut rounding out what looks like a busy holiday season for Verizon. [Engadget]

Verizon and Motorola are currently testing a new update for the Droid 2 and it’s been released to a limited number of users.

Here is a list of the enhancements and improvements for this update.

Improvements:

Improved battery life.

Heightened proximity sensor accuracy to enable faster screen response.

View the Weather widget in both landscape and portrait orientation.

Simpler setup, improved user interactions, and better notifications for Visual Voice Mail.

Background Email Sync during display inactivity for better user experience.

Support for email domain suffixes containing more than three characters.

Keep text messages organized with chronological in-box screen.

Edit text messages after you’ve inserted a video file.

Improved audio sound during recorded video playbacks.

Stream Guided Tour videos on device in Help Center application with ease.

Faster location tracking during GPS navigation.

Faster transitions between Wi-Fi and 3G in data connection.

Enhancements:

New ability to add pictures from your Gallery to a contact.

Export all your contacts to the SD card.

The Motorola Droid 2 World Edition has surfaced and as expected, it’s pretty much the same as the Droid 2 with the exception of global roaming capabilities. The major difference is cosmetic, sporting white casing with a silver screen bezel.

This will be the first world phone in the Droid lineup and is rumored to completely replace the original Droid 2. Check out the photo below. [DroidLife]

While other devices are being returned at a pretty high clip do to various issues, the Motorola Droid 2 doesn’t seem to be one of them.

As it turns out, according to a source, the Droid 2 has the lowest dropped call rate on Verizon, which has been a factor in it’s having the lowest return rate on the carrier. It looks like Motorola has a winner in the Droid 2 just like it’s older brother.

It looks like subtle changes are better than a complete overhaul! [BGR]

So I came across this story while perusing MobileCrunch and just had to plaster it up here on Android Phone Geek. It’s the perfect story for a Friday afternoon on a holiday weekend. I’m sure you remember Apple’s long running ad campaign, “There’s an app for that” marketing slogan. Motorola is now using a similar slogan in a print ad that was in the Wall Street Journal. It’s for the Droid 2 and the zinger is “Flash Websites? There’s A Phone For That.” Not really original, but so true! [MobileCrunch]
