The Sims FreePlay is now available in the Android Market from EA Games. In Freeplay, you can control up to 16 different Sims and Freeplay runs in 24-hour cycles meaning that you will need to check in throughout the day and respond to your Sims needs in real time:

Design dream homes or get fully-furnished houses for your Sims
Care for pets, grow gardens, even bake a cake
Give your Sims careers and earn Simoleons to improve their situations
Complete goals for Lifestyle Points, then spend them on hip items
Live with your Sims in real-time (when it’s day or night for you, it’s the same for your Sims)!

Sims is not new to Android but for folks not willing to shell out $8 for Sims3, this is a great offering so you can play the game without the expense. Keep in mind Sims FreePlay takes 600MB+ of space on your device, so be prepared for the large footprint! You can check out the intro video below.

Amazon’s has updated their Amazon MP3 app for Android to version 2.4. The new update brings a tablet optimized layout, a new color scheme, personalized recommendations from the Amazon MP3 store (if you’re in the U.S. that is), more prominent button layout and a lock-screen player if you’re on an Android 4.0 device. Pretty good stuff.

In case you are not familiar with the Amazon MP3 app, you can shop for music and play music stored on your device. If you’re in the US, you can play or download music stored in Amazon Cloud Drive which is included as part of the application.

Features Include:

Shop over 18 million songs and over a million albums in the Amazon MP3 store.
Save to Cloud Drive or your device
Play music stored on your device and music you’ve saved to Cloud Drive

Rovio has released the latest interation of Angry Birds Seasons. In celebration of the year of the dragon, this latest release has a Chinese New Year theme, and the “the Mighty Eagle has transformed into the fearsome Mighty Dragon!” for this Angry Birds sequence. Rovio’s also made this chapter free for the New Year!

A lot of folks would love a waterproof device. You know the drill! You’re all ready to show off your new smartphone during a poker game, lay it out on the table and next thing you know your buddy knocks your drink over and it consumes your device. You promptly grab your phone and feverishly attempt to dry it off with a hair dryer or above a hot wood stove (don’t do that!) or maybe even attempt the proper method and grab some white rice and remove the battery only to have to wait 48 hours to see that you have some serious moisture damage!

Well, that’s so yesterday and now you can actually protect your beloved device from such occurrences. Zagg has a new venture with HzO, a company with waterproofing technology that protects a device on a molecular level, shielding sensitive internal components by blocking the harmful effects of moisture and liquid. This is great technology but you can’t just send your device out when you are done reading this article and get it waterproofed as they are currently searching out device manufacturers so that the technology can be incorporated in your device upon purchase. Now that doesn’t help you with your current device but that’s where another company called Liquipel can help. For about $60 you can send your device to Liquipel who will waterproof your device and ship it back within a few days. That’s awesome and all but don’t get to excited yet, due to overwhelming demand their site can not process any new orders at the current time. However, keep your eye out if this is of interest to you as I’m sure they will get it all worked out sooner rather than later.

Google has added five new European languages to Voice Actions including UK English, German, French, Spanish and Italian. If you need a refresher, here are some of the terms you can use the next time you need to go hands free:

map of [location]

Voice Actions is available on phones and tablets running Android 2.2 and higher. If it’s on your phone just start using it, no update required. If not, you can grab it from the links below>

Opera has been updated to version 11.1 and is available in the Android Market. This new update officially supports Honeycomb with a new large screen compatibility mode. The latest update also fixed some serious security flaws and other bugs.
