The Sims FreePlay is now available in the Android Market from EA Games. In Freeplay, you can control up to 16 different Sims and Freeplay runs in 24-hour cycles meaning that you will need to check in throughout the day and respond to your Sims needs in real time:

Design dream homes or get fully-furnished houses for your Sims
Care for pets, grow gardens, even bake a cake
Give your Sims careers and earn Simoleons to improve their situations
Complete goals for Lifestyle Points, then spend them on hip items
Live with your Sims in real-time (when it’s day or night for you, it’s the same for your Sims)!

Sims is not new to Android but for folks not willing to shell out $8 for Sims3, this is a great offering so you can play the game without the expense. Keep in mind Sims FreePlay takes 600MB+ of space on your device, so be prepared for the large footprint! You can check out the intro video below.

Amazon’s has updated their Amazon MP3 app for Android to version 2.4. The new update brings a tablet optimized layout, a new color scheme, personalized recommendations from the Amazon MP3 store (if you’re in the U.S. that is), more prominent button layout and a lock-screen player if you’re on an Android 4.0 device. Pretty good stuff.

In case you are not familiar with the Amazon MP3 app, you can shop for music and play music stored on your device. If you’re in the US, you can play or download music stored in Amazon Cloud Drive which is included as part of the application.

Save to Cloud Drive or your device
Play music stored on your device and music you’ve saved to Cloud Drive

Samsung announces the Galaxy Tab 2 which will be running Ice Cream Sandwich, Android 4.

The Galaxy Tab 2 is powered by a 1GHz dual-core CPU, along with 1GB of RAM, and packs a 7-inch, 1024×600 display. The star feature is of course Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which makes the Tab 2 the first Samsung tablet to run the latest iteration of Android. Other specs include a 3MP camera on the back and a VGA front-facing camera as well, optional 3G/HSPA connectivity, 8/16/32GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot. The Tab 2 also offers voice calling capability.

This 7-inch tablet is very similar to the Galaxy Tab 7 Plus where we find differences in CPU speed and OS, the Tab 7 Plus runs Honeycomb on an Exynos chip. This looks like a great tablet for budget to mid-range buyers so we expect the price to fall in line with that mindset.

Motorola Droid 4 Now Available

The Motorola Droid 4 is now available from Verizon Wireless and you ca n pick one up for $199 with a contract. This is the fourth iteration of the original Droid which brings a larger screen and better physical keyboard.

It sports a 4-inch display at qHD (540×960) resolution and arguablythe best physical keyboard on any smartphone. The keys are backlit and laser-cut and are extremely easy to navigate. The Droid 4 back cover can be opened for SIM card insertion but you need a special unlocking tool (included) to open it. Don’t get too excited though because the battery is not easily removable, at least not without breaking it. As many folks like to be able to exchange batteries, this might be a serious concern for some!

The Droid 4 is currently running Android 2.3.6, and Verizon is promising an update it to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Serve as a 4G LTE hot spot for up to eight other devices.

Formspring is now available in Android Market. It is social app unlike any you have probably used. Formspring provides anonymous user interaction as it’s a service driven by the Q&A model. Simply ask someone a question, anonymously or otherwise and if someone wants to answer it they can. It’s fun and a simple time waster.

You can also smile at questions and answers and see who smiled at yours, follow and unfollow people and respond to questions with pictures.

We heard last year that Verizon would like to implement a shared data plan sometime this year, and according to an anonymous tipster over at Engadget, the new packages could be here sooner rather than later. Training material has made it’s way to Verizon’s internal system (see photo above) that show a new section labeled “account level data plans.” This section shows an account level charge for data allowance plus a $9.99 charge per line.

No clue as to when shared data may become available but it sure beats shelling out $30 per line for data. Of course if you are currently grandfathered into unlimited data then it may not be such a great deal since you would most likely lose that once you switch over! [Engadget]

Google Music has been updated in Android Market to version 4.1.512, bringing fixes to the shuffle mode and fixes for multiple Google accounts. The update is for all devices running Android 2.2 or higher. I personally love Google Music on my Galaxy Nexus and the fact I can store my music in the “Cloud”.

In celebration of the year of the dragon, this latest release has a Chinese New Year theme, and the “the Mighty Eagle has transformed into the fearsome Mighty Dragon!” for this Angry Birds sequence. Google Maps Updated

Google Maps has seen an update to version 6.1.1. This new version fixes “bugs on tablets and phones” according to the latest change log. This includes an issue starting the Navigation app on certain Honeycomb devices as well as an issue with phone numbers on the search result page. So, if you have been experiencing any issues on your tablet or phone, hopefully this will take care of them.

You should see an automatic update notification if Google Maps is already installed. Otherwise, use the links below to grab your update.
