So you got your new Motorola XOOM and you’re dying to gain root access. Well you are in luck thanks to Koush and while ROM manager updates will come at a later time, you can still use the steps below and get started. You should have adb and fastboot installed on your pc.

First download the XOOM root zip and then proceed with the following:

1. Unzip the package.
2. Put your junk in the box.
3. adb reboot bootloader (skip the next 3 steps if you have already unlocked via fastboot)
4. fastboot oem unlock
5. wait for reboot
6. adb reboot bootloader
7. fastboot flash boot rootboot.img
8. fastboot reboot
9. wait for reboot
10. adb remount
11. adb shell push su /system/bin
12. adb shell ln –s /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su
13. adb shell chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
14. adb push Superuser.apk /system/app

A custom recovery cannot be used but it does exist. It just needs to be enabled by Motorola, Google or developers. Well, enjoy your rooted XOOM! [Koush]
