HTC says it expects record revenues of 1.6 billion in Q2 sales of 4.5 million handsets, up from 3.3 million handsets sold in Q1. Cheng Hui-ming, HTC chief financial officer, credits the bump to the “growing popularity of the Android platform in Europe and the US”. That may well be an understatement and with their recent lineup of Android devices such as the Droid Incredible, EVO 4G, Desire and Legend, it’s understandable why they expect such immense growth.
HTC was the world’s first handset maker to release an Android phone and the manufacturer of the Google Nexus One phone, and has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of Google’s push into the mobile internet market.
Also it should be noted that HTC, which is also the world’s biggest maker of Windows Mobile-based phone’s, said it would launch a phone using Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Mobile 7 platform within the year. I can only imagine what that in combination with Android phone sales will do to their bottom line!
