droideristips HTC Droid Eris Tips & Tricks

It’s time for some tips and tricks and this time we will be concentrating on Verizon’s HTC Droid Eris.  Whether you are a pro or just became the proud owner of this Android device, I’m sure you will find some useful tips and tricks. Below is a comprehensive list to get you started!

HTC Droid Eris Tips & Tricks:

  • Press and hold Call Button to activate the Voice Commands & Dialer
  • Press and hold the Power Button (End Call) hard key to view power, silence and WIFI options
  • Press and hold Menu Button and it will bring up the keyboard
  • To improve battery life, turn off GPS, WIFI & Bluetooth when they are not in use.  More importantly, make sure the screen is set to time out in a short period of inactivity.  The display is the single biggest drain on your battery!
  • While typing a message, hit the space bar twice and it will insert a period automatically.
  • Use one of your home screens to toggle gps, wifi, mobile network, and bluetooth on and off with one touch. Simply hold a open spot on your home screen to add widget, pick htc widgets, pick settings, then add whatever widget you need to control.
  • If you exit an application using the Home Button, it will not shutdown the application.  However, the Back Button usually does the trick.
  • Press & hold the “Call” button during a call to switch between headset & speakerphone
  • When watching a video on YouTube, press the “Menu” button and you can select “High Quality”
  • Instead of swiping the screen to unlock the phone, you can also press the “End” key followed by the “Menu” key
  • For battery information, dial (*#*#4636#*#*) on the keypad and press “Call”. Select “Battery Information”
  • Want to stop WiFi from sleeping? Click: Settings > Wireless Controls > Wifi Settings. Now Click: Menu > Click Advanced > Then Click: Wifi Sleep Policy > Click Never
  • To bypass entering your password for voicemail: Menu > Settings > Call Settings > Voicemail > *86PXXXX# (The x’s are your password)
  • To save an MMS: In your conversation, click and hold the message, not the picture itself. Now a box will pop up saying “Save Picture”.
  • While the phone is ringing you can silence it by turning the phone face down.
  • To switch between active apps, press and hold the Home key and it will show you the last six active apps
  • You can create folders in the same way you add a Widget (holding your finger on the desktop), just select “Folder” instead. You can then rename the folder by opening it and then pressing and holding the title bar of that folder. To drag apps into it, click on the  “up” arrow just above the Home button, find the app you want to add, press and hold it and drag it to the folder in which you want to place it.
  • To move Widgets and shortcuts around your home screens, just press and hold them until they get the green frame around them and then you can remove them or drop them where you like.
  • Quickly double tap the screen when viewing an image or on a web page and zoom in and out without using the pinch technique
  • For those of you looking for a USB cable to charge or sync your Eris, you can use any standard mini-USB cables you may already own. The Verizon ones look a little different but they will all work.
  • You can snap a picture by either pressing the track ball or by pressing anywhere on the screen.
  • If you are a former Blackberry user, say goodbye to battery pulls!  The equivalent of a Blackberry soft reset is just powering off your device and turning on again!
